There was once a point in time when the Formula 1 calendar had Detroit, Michigan as one of its race cities. And while that’s not the case now, the Detroit Grand Prix offered plenty of memorable races, one of which was in 1987 when a roster of some of the most well-known Formula 1 drivers took to the grid to compete in a pretty eventful race from start to end.
Ayrton Senna was there. Alain Prost was there too. So were Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet, and Gerhard Berger. Between those five drivers, you can count 11 Planet Championships, hundreds of wins and podium finishes, and unmeasurable amounts of hardcore F1 racing. In this video, we take a look back at the 1987 Detroit Grand Prix in all its retro glory. All five of the aforementioned champions all participated in the race, making it one of the very few times that Formula 1 had so many Driver’s Champions in one grid competing at the same time. The video covers the entirety of the race, so if you’ve got 90 summary to spare, it’s a must-watch for any right racing aficionado.Officine Autodrome Timepiece Collection

Earlier this year Mercedes has unveiled the new generation SL-Class and today is time to finally see the most powerful model in the series: the SL63 AMG. While no official fine points have been revealed just yet, Mercedes has offered a sneak peak on the car during the official launch on the new Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W03 race car in Spain.
As expect the SL 63 AMG looks more aggressive than the standard SL-Class thanks to its a deeper front bumper with larger air intakes, the usual AMG LED daytime running lights sitting surrounded by the bumper, “V8 Biturbo” badges, a subtle rear deck spoiler and of course the four trapezoidal-shaped chromed tailpipes.Under the hood the new SL63 AMG has received the same twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine by now used in models like CLS 63 AMG, tuned to deliver a total of 529 HP. Thanks to the all-aluminum bodyshell and assorted magnesium components the new sports car is about 240 lbs lighter than its predecessor and of course a small bit quicker: it sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. In the same time Mercedes has promised that the fuel economy has been improved by 30%.Official fine points will be unveiled tomorrow, so stay tuned!Lexus wants to bring the pain to BMW with a GS-F rival for the M5

Apart from being one of the most awesome supercars on the planet, the Lexus LF-A taught us something vital about Lexus. Toyota’s luxury division is trying to shed away its conservative persona in favor of being seen as a omen of high-performance cars.
Now it appears they’re targeting more than just the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the planet. They’ve also got an eye towards performance vehicles like the BMW M5, which only adds to Lexus’ growing reputation as a giant slayer.
According to Autocar, the Japanese automaker is preparation on building a high-performance version of the GS-F, one that will carry a tuned version of the LF-A’s 4.8-liter V10 engine and will have at least 450 horsepower on tap. Those figures still fall small of the M5’s 550-horsepower output, but it’s still what people will consider as high-performance. Besides, you can expect Lexus to make up for the relative lack of output by packing all sorts of equipment in the car.
Lexus’ intention of catering more to the planet of high-performance cars was busted open with the release of the LF-A supercar. After seeing what they’re truly capable of, we’re not vacant to place anything past these guys.
If they want to go after cars like the BMW M5, then by all earnings, more potential to them.
